STORY

We roam the wide roads of Hungarian folklore, while being tempted by the diverse expressions of the universal dance culture. Caring about the unity of tradition and modernity, presenting pure authentic motions in a way that will attract the attention of any man from the street:
This is URBAN VERBUNK.

WHO ARE WE?

As the current leaders of Gödöllő Táncegyüttes (Gödöllő Dance Ensemble), which has been operating since 1992 and has been highly rated several times, we would like to provide space for modern folklore arts which are also attractive for urban youth. Our team plays a prominent role in the domestic folk dance scene, is regularly a guest of the most prestigious domestic and international forums and sports events. In 2017, we were present at the FINA World Championships and at the opening ceremony of the Judo World Championships.

EDUCATION, YOUTH PROGRAMME, COACHING
…because folk dance is cool…

Our main task at all times is to introduce children to the culture of folk dancing and folk music. Nearly 200 young people belong to our community divided into 5 groups, from kindergarten all the way to the final grade of high school. Our goal is to create an atmosphere of dance culture and value mediation in which the growing generations can find their roots and forms of expression as well, a place where “folk dance can be cool again”…

TRADITION AND MODERNITY – URBAN VERBUNK
…always having to go, always having to stay…

We believe that the values of the past can only be reliably represented if we form the folk dance of our time in a way that befriends the future. Going beyond conventionalism, we dare to create something new, combining old and modern Our goal is to “preserve the traditions of the modern age”, where the values of the past and the challenges of the present can be together in peace, where folk dance can be a contemporary genre! The professionally acclaimed dancers of our company are pulsating individual characters who are using high level dance virtuosity to bring the exceptional genre of folklore-theatre to life. Built on this high-quality and prospering base of youth recruiting, we established our professional company, a new brand in the scene of Hungarian dance theatre: URBAN VERBUNK.

TRAVELLING PERFORMANCES

FOLK DANCE SHOW

“DOBBANTÁS”
(STAMP)

Original folk dance that exceeds the expectations of 2019. Thrilling rhythms, 16-cylinder dynamics and limitless momentum.

“DOBBANTÁS” is a rite-like dance performance where resolute men and passionate women stand sometimes in front of each other, sometimes in pairs and sometimes in one powerful array, despite of longing for freedom. A fascinating selection of rhythms from the traditional dance culture of Hungary and the nationalities living with us. Patriotic primal strength, advanced dance skills. Traditional and modern, past and present, presenting the borders of the Hungarians and the minorities that do not separate, but connect…dancer, musician and viewers alike.

Choreographers, directors: Judit Tóth and Ahmed Moussa

FOLK DANCE PERFORMANCE
BASED ON PARKOUR ELEMENTS

“KÖTÉLTÁNC”
(TIGHTROPE WALKING)

Harmony is a constant melody that lies within the universe. An irrepressible rhythm that penetrates the soul and shapes our daily lives.

A harmonic man possesses power and softness at the same time, once one is outside and the other inside and vice versa. But to find out its secret we are all balancing on a single thin rope. Sometimes we fall, but only to restart the road from the beginning, sometimes we take long distances easily. But there are always those who don’t take a single step, they only admire or even envy those who, with a pole in their hands, are bravely proceeding to the attractive unknown. To a world where there will surely be up and down, easy encounters and though breaks… This is also symbolized by the scenery, which is a 4 metres long cascading rotating balance swing that flies the dancers into dizzying heights and terrifying depths.

HUNGARY’S VERY FIRST CHILD FOLK DANCE-THEATRE PRESENTS:

PINOCCHIO

„Fascinating folk dance theatre from children, about children, (but not only) for children!“

The enlightening story of the Italian wooden boy, Pinocchio is familiar to all of us, but only few know the adventures of the Pinocchio who dances ”in Hungarian”. The instructive story of the living wooden puppet comes alive in an enormous 4-metre-high armchair, and the fabulous journey begins on the wings of folk dance, folk music and folk song. Pinocchio, the innocent boy trapped between truth and lies, is just as clumsy in his slippers from Kalocsa as we are in the unknown of the big world.

Music: Maszkura Báró, Antal Szilágyi, Márton Éri, Putripop

MISSION

BUILDING COMMUNITIES, TAKING ON SOCIAL DUTIES

According to the National Roma Integration Strategies, one of the main priorities of Hungarian education policy is that:
„… the child … should receive training throughout his or her lifetime appropriate to his or her abilities and talents, without that being influenced by prejudice or discrimination.

The principle above, and social inequalities form a defining motif for us as well, which we have highlighted in our project with the Parafonia Orchestra. Our stage shows and continuous trainings also focus on Roma inclusion with active involvement in several locations. We believe that culture is a bridge between generations and people from different social backgrounds. We are very much connected to the tools of the National Roma Integration Strategies, with a strong emphasis on cultural education and the involvement of local people (subsidiarity) and NGOs.

Our Philosophy: Not just case discussion, but concrete action!

SERVICES

TEAM CHEMISTRY TRAINING

… the company steps on stage …

We offer our unusual teambuilding training to large multinational companies, SMEs, who want to enhance their performance through unique and memorable situations.

Dance, as the oldest manner of self-expression, as well as doing it in pair form (which is the smallest indivisible unit of each team) is guaranteed to create unusual cooperative situations and unexpected successes, even for well-established teams. The great master of success and managing failure, dr. Gergely Kiss, a three-time Olympic champion water polo player, also helps this teamwork and talks about how to endure team failure and institutional success. In accordance with the customer’s requirements, we undertake the complete organisation of a team chemistry training of one or more days, including the provision of the venue, the meal and the program.
